2026 Mindanao Earthquake Response

The June 2026 Mindanao earthquake affected communities across Southern Mindanao, including General Santos City and parts of Sarangani Province, disrupting homes, essential services and livelihoods and creating urgent humanitarian needs. PHILCARE conducted rapid needs assessments in General Santos City and Glan, Sarangani, identifying priority needs including food, safe drinking water, hygiene assistance, shelter, psychosocial support and livelihood recovery. As communities moved beyond the immediate emergency, continuing needs were also identified in shelter, education, community facilities and household livelihoods, highlighting the importance of linking emergency relief with early recovery.

PHILCARE mobilized field teams following the earthquake to conduct rapid needs assessments in General Santos City and Glan, Sarangani, and to coordinate with local authorities, community leaders and humanitarian partners. The response was implemented through successive rounds of assistance based on identified needs. Emergency support included food, safe drinking water, hygiene and other essential relief assistance for earthquake-affected households. Through partnerships with MyCARE Malaysia, Dompet Dhuafa Indonesia, Global Humanity Network Indonesia, and FL/Childrity Malaysia, PHILCARE reached 178 families during earlier rounds of the emergency response. The response was further supported by individual donors in the Philippines, enabling PHILCARE to provide 5 kilograms of rice each to 100 families in General Santos City and food and drinking water assistance to 60 families in Glan, Sarangani. As the response progressed from immediate relief toward recovery, PHILCARE continued addressing longer-term needs in affected communities. Early recovery activities are currently ongoing in collaboration with LAZ Baitulmaalku Indonesia.

PHILCARE has reached 338 unique earthquake-affected families through completed emergency assistance in General Santos City and Glan, Sarangani. Of these, 178 families were reached through emergency interventions supported by international humanitarian partners, while an additional 160 families received assistance supported by individual donors in the Philippines. Completed assistance included food, safe drinking water, hygiene support, rice and other essential relief assistance based on identified household needs. PHILCARE is now continuing its response through early recovery activities in collaboration with LAZ Baitulmaalku Indonesia. Results from the ongoing recovery phase are not yet included in the 338 families reached and will be reported once activities are completed and verified.
