Orphan Sponsorship Project

Children who have lost their fathers may face increased economic and social vulnerability, particularly when the loss of a primary provider places additional pressure on the surviving parent or guardian. For vulnerable households, these pressures can affect a child’s education, daily needs, well-being, and access to consistent care and support. Effective orphan sponsorship therefore requires more than financial assistance. Children need regular follow-up, educational support, safe guidance, and a reliable care system that responds to their changing needs.

Building on its existing sponsorship experience, PHILCARE is preparing a 2027 expansion in Marawi City to enroll 10 additional eligible orphans. The estimated Sponsorship and Care Package is PHP 15,000 per child annually, covering direct financial assistance as well as essential care, educational and family follow-up, safeguarding, documentation, and responsible program delivery.

The project is expected to contribute to greater stability and well-being for sponsored children and their families by helping ease the financial pressure associated with the child’s essential and educational needs. For the child, regular sponsorship and structured follow-up are expected to support continuity in education, access to essential needs, personal development, and a stronger sense of care, protection, and social support. For the family, the assistance is expected to reduce part of the financial burden of caring for the child, allowing limited household resources to be better allocated to other essential needs while strengthening the family’s capacity to support the child’s education and well-being. Through regular monitoring and family follow-up, PHILCARE also aims to identify emerging educational, family, or protection concerns early and connect children and families with appropriate support or referral when needed.
