On June 8, 2026, a youth seminar titled “The Role of Muslim Youth in Community Peacebuilding: An Islamic Perspective on Peace, Participation, and Social Responsibility on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW)” was conducted for students of Jamiatu Janoubel Filibbin at Ma’ahad Kuwait, Poona Marantao, Marawi City.

The activity brought together Nonviolent Peaceforce, Tazkiya Organization, and Philippine Humanitarian Care (PHILCARE) Inc. in a collaborative effort to strengthen young people’s understanding of their role in building peaceful and responsible communities.

The seminar explored the role of Muslim youth in promoting peace, preventing violence, participating constructively in community life, and understanding social responsibility in relation to Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW). The discussions connected these issues with Islamic values of peace, responsibility, compassion, and positive community engagement.

Brother Hamza Adapun and Dr. Omayyah Amer-Tarathingan shared their knowledge and perspectives with the participants, encouraging young people to become constructive contributors to peace and community development.

The active participation of the students reflected the importance of creating spaces where young people can discuss issues affecting their communities, strengthen their understanding of nonviolence, and develop a greater sense of social responsibility.

Through initiatives such as this, PHILCARE continues to support youth development, peacebuilding, and meaningful community participation as part of its commitment to stronger and more resilient communities.
