MARAWI CITY, Philippines — Philippine Humanitarian Care (PHILCARE) Inc. hosted a three-day humanitarian capacity-building programme from August 17 to 19, 2023, aimed at strengthening practical skills among humanitarian workers and volunteers.
The programme focused on negotiation skills for frontline humanitarian aid workers and volunteer management for humanitarian organizations.
Sessions on humanitarian negotiation introduced participants to negotiation processes, bargaining approaches, conflict-management styles, sources of power, and practical techniques through interactive exercises and simulations.
The volunteer-management component examined approaches to attracting, engaging, and retaining volunteers, while encouraging participating organizations to reflect on how their vision, mission, and values align with volunteers’ expectations and motivations.
The training brought together PHILCARE and regional humanitarian partners, with resource persons associated with SEAHUM, Rumah Zakat, and Clingendael Institute contributing expertise to the programme.
Through initiatives such as this, PHILCARE seeks to strengthen the capabilities of its volunteers and humanitarian personnel for responsible and effective community service.
